Parent and Child Fostering

WFC-what-is-fosteringParent and Child Carers are expected to take a young parent and their child into their home. Carers will need to help and guide the parent in order to cope with the responsibilities that come with being a parent. Being placed in this type of care allows the young parent to benefit from the reassurance and advice the carer can provide while the baby is in a safe, nurturing and secure environment of a foster home.

Do you have:

  • Personal experience of caring for babies
  • Professional experience of working with teenagers
  • Great deal of patience, flexibility, empathy and stamina
  • At least one spare bedroom
  • Good observation and communication skills
  • Team working or mentoring skills

Can you:

  • Offer consistent and firm boundaries
  • Manage their feelings, emotions and behaviour
  • Effectively communicate and negotiate with young people
  • Develop practical and life skills in young people
  • Be discreet and have the ability to step back
  • Be quiet, unobtrusive and vigilant
  • Be professional and approachable
  • Be optimistic and Resilient
